Arche Scaligere

The Scaliger Arches, located in the heart of Verona's historic center, next to the Church of Santa Maria Antica and a few meters from Piazza dei Signori, are a monumental Gothic-style funerary complex of the Scaliger family. They were designed to contain the tombs of several illustrious representatives of the house, including that of the greatest Lord of Verona, Cangrande, to whom Dante dedicated the Paradise.
The French historian Georges Duby in his book "The Europe of the Middle Ages" defined the arches as "one of the most distinguished and significant monuments of Gothic art".
