Juliet's Tomb

Juliet's Tomb is located in Verona inside the former Capuchin monastery dating back to the 13th century, now the "G.B. Cavalcaselle" Museum of Frescoes. Tradition and imagination suggest that this is the burial place of Juliet Capulet, the protagonist of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The appearance of the site, as we see it now, dates back to 1937 when the director of Verona's museums, Antonio Avena, who had also overseen the stylistic renovation of Juliet's House, wanted to give the place identified as the Shakespearean heroine's tomb an appearance more in line with tourists' expectations. Since 2000, every Monday during summer, a festival is held in the cloister of the former monastery: OPERA IN LOVE – Romeo and Juliet. This event combines Opera and Theater to tell the story of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare's words, in their original language, meet the protagonists of operas by Verdi, Puccini, and Mozart.
